Annual Congregational MeetingsIf you are a member of Cornerstone, it's a privilege to exercise your voting right at the Annual Congregational Meetings. There are two (2) of these meetings each year -- the first in January for the purpose of selecting new Elders and Deacons, and the second in June for the review and adoption of the financial budget for the upcoming fiscal year which runs from July 1-June 30.
Presbyterianism relies on a Spirit-directed system of government by ruling Elders, as modeled in the Book of Acts by the early Church. Cornerstone's Elders serve for a term of three years with a portion of the 16 Elders rotating off each year.
At the January meeting, a slate of Elder-nominees is presented for the body of Christ to elect with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Likewise, Deacon candidates are presented for election to office.
The June meeting date is financial and at this meeting the annual reports for all the ministries are distributed. Also, the budget for the coming year (July 1 through June 30) and Terms of Call for the pastors are reviewed and voted on.
A quorum of 10% of the church membership is necessary at each of these meetings, so your attendance matters! You will have an active voice in the government of Cornerstone, as well as learning more about how our church functions. If you are a regular attender here at Cornerstone but not a member, you're still encouraged to attend the meetings, though you can't cast a vote. Our next congregational meeting will be on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 1:30 pm (or immediately following the noon service). We will vote on a slate of deacons for 2013 and beyond and a slate of elders for 2013 and beyond.
